Water park Splashes for an all inclusive stay in an Old Town called Alcudia, Mallorca

Is there any better feeling than treating the kids to an all inclusive holiday? Well, last summer I had the privilege of taking my kids on a little holiday to Mallorca. We stayed at the Club Mac hotel, Port d’ Alcudia. Situated right next to a water park, we had free access as an all inclusive stay.

While I must admit that I've visited Mallorca before, it's been quite a while since I last explored, so I was thrilled to be next to the historic town of Alcudia for some sight seeing- and of course photographs for the blog! It was located on the other side of the island and so I was able to see a new part of this pretty Spanish island.

With Mallorca being a very popular tourist destination, particularly with brits, recently (2024) there have been new laws enforced for boozy tourists. In a bid to cut down the brits excessive drinking and make it a safer tourist destination, some of the new laws include alcohol free zones- something to bear in mind if you visit this summer!

Still a summer holiday with the kids probably should be a boozy special and so staying at the 3 hotel, I found pleasant. The hotel catered for kids with a whole host of activities. There was a play park, a boating lake, nightly entertainment and a choice of pools. So, if you're looking for somewhere thrilling, affordable and fun, then I think this place will have you covered.

I must admit that I found the back story of the mascot a little strange. I think he was meant to be an alien? And his girlfriend had broken up with him or something bizarre. However, the good news is that it was all in Spanish so it was a little difficult to understand.

My daughter still loved every moment and even got on stage at one point. I think it's a great way to introduce kids to a new language if nothing else. There was a lot of kids' entertainment here so it's perfect if you do like a little tipple in the evening. They even play bingo every night. I saw someone win 700 euros one night so it's worth playing.

The water park opens at 10 am and has a great range of slides and pools for all ages. It suited my teenager and my five year old so it was an all round winner. You do have to pay for sunbeds and once you’ve paid you'll get it all day, even if you leave the splash park which I thought was quite good.

I had to leave for a couple of hours one day, as I had meeting with a place in the sun’s production team and when I came back it was still there. Little did I know that in three weeks time I would be flying out to Abruzzo to find my dream place!

Anyway, the water park definitely made up for other parts of the hotel where I thought it was lacking. For example the bars were always over crowded and it was difficult to get a drink, and I personally thought the food in the hotel was average. It was okay, but nothing special if that makes sense?

Exploring Alcudia the old town

The old historic town of Alcudia is accessible by bus or taxi. A taxi cost around 8 euros each way and took roughly 15 minutes to get there. Alcudia itself is a small town, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in character, specifically the old quarter.

The town is surrounded by a giant wall which you can walk along and I would recommend this. It's great for history buffs like my son or just for the panoramic views.

There are also lots of little shops and boutiques so it's a good place to find gifts like spices, pottery and oil. There were also many clothes shops and even a little vintage photography parlour. They do photoshoots of cowboys, gangsters or in Victorian clothing. You do have to book the photo shoot in advance so unfortunately we didn't get to do this, but I thought it was a cool idea for some family fun.

There were plenty of restaurants to choose from, so if you get sick of the hotel food like we did, I would recommend trying some authentic Spanish tapas. This was the highlight of our trip!

Of course, we had to try the Spanish omelette pictured above and some chorizo. Delicately spiced and full of flavour this chorizo was a real crowd-pleaser.

Although Mallorca is a tourist destination, I still think it was a great place to take kids. It was my daughter's first time abroad so I wanted somewhere with a short flight. There was also a playground at Mallorca airport which came in handy on the way back. She was able to burn off some steam before we got on the plane (thought I'd mention).

I wanted to peak her curiosity about travel as it's something she may well have to get used to in the future. While this holiday was more for the kids, it was still an adventure.

Visiting Alcudia Beach…

Finally, I thought I'd mention the beach! It was easy to get to by bus and it worked out as a cheap day out. If you want to leave the hotel for a day and want to save money, then the beach is a good option. My son enjoy a pizza with a nice view of the sea but there were loads of food places to choose from.

It was busy but not overcrowded in summer which was nice. The buses run every hour so make sure you check the times before you settle on the beach.
